The Minister of Tourism, Frank Jorge Elias, said there is a lot of interest among the Japanese to travel to the Dominican Republic. He reported that a survey was recently carried out to discover the perception the Japanese have of the Dominican Republic. He said that it revealed that they see the country as an exporter of sugar and a tourist island with beaches that 54% of those interviewed said they would like to visit.
He explained that the survey was carried out to understand the strategy needed to penetrate the market that is known for its high buying power.
Of those interviewed 45% knew the D.R. is a Caribbean country. Some 30% said that it is a beach destination in the Caribbean and 54% said that it would be the first Caribbean country they would visit if they were able. Jorge Elias said that the results encouraged him to design strategies to promote the country and make it the first or second choice for the Japanese tourist coming to the Caribbean.
