Asonahores believes new government will support tourism

The National Hotel & Restaurant Association believes that the tourist industry will receive more attention, and be able to contribute more to the country with the election of any of the candidates that are running for President in May. Frank Rainieri, president of the organization, said that all candidates have committed to improve relations with the sector so that unilateral measures are not applied.

This type of commitment from the national political leadership is an achievement,” said Mr Rainieri. He also said that it is necessary for the government and private sectors to join forces to take advantage of the new conditions in the market. He was speaking at the opening of the association’s new regional offices at the Avenida Mexico headquarters of Asonahores.

He added that while Asonahores was one of the least known organizations some eight years ago, this is not the case today. “Many things are changing in our society. Asonahores also is responding to the challenge of the new times, aware that the most difficult part of success is to continue being a success, improving with the times, changing with society and forging ahead despite the great obstacles,” he said.

Present at the event was John Bell, executive vice president of the Caribbean Hotel Association who called for Dominican hoteliers to decisively assume the role of leadership in the Caribbean. The country has the most hotel rooms in the area.

Furthermore, Frank Rainieri announced that at the end of this year, the small hotels of the Caribbean will meet in the Dominican Republic and the country hopes to be site of the Caribbean Hotel Industry Conference (CHIC) in 1997.
