Haiti is on its way back onto the tourism scene, concluded executives of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) and a business delegation from the Caribbean/Latin American Action (C/LAA) that visited late last month.
The delegation, which included Michael Youngman, director of marketing for the CTO, John Bell, executive vice president for CHA and Horace Hord, director of marketing, Atlantic/Caribbean for American Airlines, met with Haiti’s President Rene Preval, followed by a lunch with the Presidential Commission on Economic Growth and Modernization.
Haiti rejoined the CTO a year ago and its Secretary of State for Tourism, Maryse Penette, has been active at all the board meetings since that time. The tourist board is concentrating on developing ways to show its culture, history, arts and crafts, food, music and people. Haiti’s hotel association is led by Richard Buteau, owner of the Hotel Kinam.
