D.R. in Caribbean Hotel Industry Conference

Asonahores reports that the Dominican delegation to the annual meeting of Caribbean Hotels, held in Bahamas last week, has been very active. Alberto del Pino, president of the Allegro hotel chain, participated in a panel on all-inclusive hotels. Allegro is the CHA member with most rooms under the all-inclusive system. The chain operates 34 hotels in America, Africa and Asia. During the meeting, Rafael Blanco Canto was elected as treasurer of the regional organization.

The themes of the Caribbean Hotel Industry Conference 1996 (CHIC 96) held 9-12 June was ecotourism and the environment as marketing instruments, and the marketing of the Caribbean region. The National Association of Hotels and Restaurants was also represented by Arturo Villanueva, executive vice president of Asonahores and Rafael Blanco Canto, president of Club Dominicus, who was nominated for the position of treasurer. Also at the event was Manuel Quiterio Cedeño, Asonahores advisor and a specialist in tourism information.

Other topics discussed were “Hotels in the 21st Century,” “Hurricanes,” “Caribbean Cooking,”, “Spas and Health-Oriented Resorts,” “Protection and Personal Security,” “Air Transportation,” and the “Impact of Technological Advances in Marketing,”.
