Dominican hotels receive “green hotel” distinction

Two Dominican hotels received “green hotel” awards from the Caribbean Hotel Association, under a scheme sponsored by American Express. The prize winner of the Green Infrastructure Award was Tomeu Alcina, Hotel Melia Bavaro, and The Green Stewardship Award went to Frank Rainieri, of the Punta Cana Beach Resort. The winners were chosen by environmental experts who performed site inspections. The categories were conservation, awareness, stewardship and infrastructure. For the second consecutive year, Heinz Simonitsch and the Half Moon Golf, Tennis & Beach Club in Montego Bay, Jamaica, was honored as the “Green Hotel of the Year.”
