Dubbed "the wedding of the year" by the Listín Diario, on Saturday, 29 November, dressed in a sleeveless, red gown, Patricia Alvarez Dubreil wed banker Ramón Báez Figueroa. President Leonel Fernández and PRD leader, Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez, attended. President Fernández danced with the bride to the music of Juan Luís Guerra, who ensembled his 4-40 group, complete with Adalgisia Pantaleón, Marcos Hernández and Roger Zayas, for the occasion. The group had not performed in years. Also performing was José Antonio Molina, the director of the Palm Beach Orchestra of Florida; Mexican crooner Armando Manzanero accompanied by the Mexican mariachi Vargas de Tecatitlán; Mexican Marco Antonio Muñiz, another Latin American legend of romantic music; and Dominican merengue star Fernando Villalona. The evening ended after 4 am with Sergio Vargas playing his romantic merengue and other hits. The wedding reception took place at the La Romana Country Club in Casa de Campo, La Romana. The couple will spend their honeymoon in Europe.
