Big energy users consume more than thousands of household users

CDE board says that big users are responsible for the utility’s problems. The president of the Board of Administration of the Corporación Dominicana de Electricidad, Celso Marranzini, said that the major culprits of the fraud against the state utility are large private businesses, not the thousands of low income Dominicans. He said that the enemies of the privatization are big consumers who want to continue negotiating their debts. A recent study shows that in the National District of the 517,828 homes that use the service, only 263,097 pay for the service, or slightly more than half. On a national scale 36% of households do not pay light. But the board says that the homes consume relatively little energy compared to the large industrial and commercial consumers who do not pay for their full consumption.
