Julio Mariñez ahead in the race for mayor

Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez announced that preliminary election reports from the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano indicate that engineer Julio Mariñez may have won the nomination for mayor of Santo Domingo. Mariñez defeated Miguel Vargas Maldonado and Eligio Jaquez. Reportedly, he had received 34% of the 103,000 votes cast in the city. The Listin Diario reported that Mariñez had received 36,540 votes (34.85%), Miguel Vargas 36,063 votes (33.37%) and Eligio Jaquez 32,894 (31.78%). Julio Mariñez had the support of present mayor of Santo Domingo, Rafael Suberví Bonilla. Party members also voted for Milagros Ortiz Bosch as candidate for senator. Ortiz Bosch is the party’s present senator for the National District.
