The largest hardware store in the northern city of Puerto Plata, Ferretería Bordas, began 2 am, on Monday. The fire was put out by the firemen at 6 am, after consuming merchandise and having destroyed the building where the hardware store had operated for over 30 years. Businessman Jose Alfredo Bordas (Chito), owner of the hardware store, estimated losses at RD$50 million.
