A 5-9 December Gallup poll for Hoy newspaper indicates that 60% of Dominicans favor a decrease in the price of gasoil and gasoline and feel it would not affect the economy. Furthermore, the survey showed that 50.4% approve the presidential re-election, although there is not a consensus on whether presidents should be allowed to run for one, two or more consecutive periods. This percentage is 10 points more than that registered when the same question was asked in September. Consecutive presidential re-election was prohibited in the modification of the constitution that took place in 1994 on occasion of a virtual tie of the election results.
