The director of the CAASD, the potable water utility of Santo Domingo, criticized that past administrations have not made the service independent from the deficient electricity supply. He announced he would be installing electricity generators at a cost of RD$15 million that will improve potable water service in Santo Domingo. Several water plants are electrically-operated, thus when long blackouts occur, as is the case at present, large areas of the city are affected.
