Sammy Claus

Dominican baseball player, Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs, played Santa Claus in the States and the Dominican Republic last week, visiting schools and hospitals in Philadelphia, New York, Chicago and Miami, and San Pedro de Macoris and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. He distributed over 7,000 gifts to children. "Sammy Claus" earns over US$10 million a year playing ball in the States. "One has to give something back," said Sosa to Baseball Weekly. Sosa grew up in the low-income sugar mill town of Consuelo. His goal is to distribute 50,000 gifts by the year 2002.
