The Listin Diario reported that the Dominican Port Authority and a group of local and foreign businessman are advancing on the project for the construction of the Tortuguero Megaport in the Bay of Ocoa, Azua, in the southwest. The port, which calls for an investment of US$120 million in its first phase, would serve for the transshipment of large container ships. With 1,270 lineal meters for docks, it would be able to service four large Post Panamax-type ships. Entrance channel would be 240 meters wide, and 50 foot deep. In a first phase, it would have 40,000 square meters as well as facilities for warehousing, customs offices, port offices and Navy offices. The plan is to build a megaport at the level of the most sophisticated in the world.
