Changes in government

President Leonel Fernández replaced the executive director of the Consejo Estatal del Azúcar, Ignacio Rodríguez Chiappini. He was replaced by PLD leader Oscar Santiago Batista. Santiago Batista is a former PLD senator for Monseñor Nouel province. He was formerly general manager of the Corphotels. He is the owner of the Típico Bonao, a popular parador along the Autopista Duarte, the country’s main thoroughfare that heads North from Santo Domingo. The President also removed Deputy Minister of Finances Faustino Jiménez. He was replaced by Juan Rivera. The President appointed his sister Sonia Fernández as president of the Consejo Nacional de la Niñez, replacing the late Ana Elisa Villanueva, widow of former President Jacobo Majluta, who died recently. The President appointed Julian Elsevyf as general manager of the Corporación de Fomento de la Industria Hotelera y Desarrollo del Turismo (Corphotels). José Ramón Peralta was named member of the board of directors of the Banco de Reservas, replacing German Emilio Ornes, who died recently. Juan Jose Rosario was appointed governor of Duarte province (San Francisco de Macorís), replacing Octavio Lister Henríquez.
