The counselor of the Embassy of Argentina said that during the first four months of the year some 17,000 Argentineans visited the Punta Cana tourist destination, along the East Coast of the DR. He said that a tour of seven days from Argentina to the DR costs US$1,000 to US$1,500, of which US$500 pays for the airfare. Georgina Raquel Bortolotto explained that in 1997, some 31,000 tourists visited the DR. She estimated the DR received some US$31 million in tourism receipts last year. Argentina sold comestible oils to the DR, hoses, glasses, sweets and vaccinations for a total of US$37 million in 1997.
