DR appoints Daniel Guerrero ambassador in Cuba

Ministry of Foreign Relations announced yesterday that Daniel Guerrero Taveras has been appointed the Dominican Republic’s ambassador in Cuba. Miguel Pérez Cruz, former general consul, will be the Cuban ambassador in the country. He had been consul general since December 1997. Both countries will open their embassies in the same lovely houses where these were located prior to the closing of relations in 1959. The Dominican Republic is at present represented in Cuba by consul general Grecia Fiordaliza Pichardo. Born in 1953, Guerrero graduated from the law school of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. He later received a masters in foreign commerce and international economic relations at the Centro de Investigaciones de Economía Internacional of the University of Havana. He has taught law at the UASD and is a columnist in the El Nacional afternoon newspaper. He is a member of the Central Committee of the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana, the government party, since the early 90s. He is married to a Cuban and has three daughters. The Dominican Republic re-established full diplomatic relations with Cuba on 16 April 1998.
