Bernie Williams, the New York Yankees famed player, visited Santo Domingo yesterday. Bernie Williams could soon become the best paid player in Major Leagues baseball. A native of Puerto Rico, he traveled to Santo Domingo to donate US$100,000 to the reconstruction of the Hospital Theodore Carl George, the principal public hospital in San Pedro de Macorís, Sammy Sosa’s hometown. San Pedro de Macorís was one of the most affected provinces by Hurricane Georges in September. Williams is now a free agent after having played for six years with the New York Yankees. He has said he would prefer to stay with the Yankees, but is open to offers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, and Texas Rangers. Williams forecast that Sammy Sosa will be voted the Most Valuable Player of the National League.
