Damages were a sequel to the Hurricane Georges rains and reflect the fact that hundreds of indigent Dominicans have built their homes in high risk areas which are flooded when heavy rains fall. The rains affected crops, destroyed some bridges already weakened by Hurricane Georges, and left some small towns incommunicado in Santiago, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao), Monte Cristi, El Seibo and San Juan de la Maguana provinces.
