Nobody knows how many Haitians live in the DR. The director of the National Statistics Office, Maritza Rossi says that the 2000 Census will provide helpful information. She says those interviewed for the census will be asked their nationality. But she admitted this intention clashes with the reality that illegal foreigners normally try to hide, thus the number of Haitians admitting to their nationality may be lower than the reality.
