The National Police announced that from 24 December through 7 January 2000, it will retain any guns visibly ported by persons, regardless of whether they have permission or not. The guns will be returned after 7 January. The National Police also announced that 5,000 police agents have been assigned to patrol Santo Domingo to contribute to a safe Christmas.
