The Fernández Administration has collected 20% more taxes this year than last. Tax collections went from RD$17,000 million in 1998 to RD$20,327 million in 1999, or RD$3,327 million more. Director General of the Dirección de Impuestos Internos, the local tax bureau, Juan Hernandez said that the largest increases were in the sales tax or the Impuesto sobre la Transferencia de Bienes Industralizados y Servicios (ITBIS) and the income tax, or Impuesto sobre la Renta. Based on tax collections, the DGII estimates stores sold over RD$56.6 million in 1999.
