Canadian ambassador Bruno Picard estimates that 230,000 Canadian tourists will visit the DR in 2000. He spoke at the Dominican-Canadian Chamber of Commerce luncheon held in Puerto Plata. He said that Canadian tourists come from Vancouver to Halifax. He mentioned that a leading Canadian company, Vancouver Airport Services will be taking over the management of the Puerto Plata International Airport and Las Americas International Airport in April. The company was also allotted the operation of the Barahona and Samana airports which to date have no traffic. (22 February 2000)
