The Ministry of Tourism announced the winners of the recent Santo Domingo carnival parade, where floats, dance troupes and folklore groups from all over the country come to put on their best performance and vie to win prizes. The winners were: Carrozas de Provincias (provincial floats): Rio San Juan, Constanza tied for the RD$100,000 award. Carrozas Privadas (private floats): Club Naco, Santo Domingo, Grupo Punta Cana and Fantasia Egipcia from Santiago. Tied for the RD$125,000 award. Mejor Comparsa Temática (best theme dance group): Rio San Juan won the RD$75,000 award. Mejor Comparsa de Fantasía (best fantasy dance group): Pintados, Barahona and Por Amor al Carnaval of Villa Mella tied for the RD$60,000 award. Comparsa Barrial (neighborhood dance group): Fantasía de los Reyes, Villa Francisco, won the RD$50,000 award. Comparsa Provincial (provincial dance group): Nigua, San Cristóbal won the RD$50,000 award. (15 March 2000)
