Drugs seized at Las Americas Airport

The National Drug Control Service (DNCD) arrested two Dominicans headed, respectively, for Italy and the United States, with quantities of cocaine and the synthetic drug, extasis. Milan-bound passenger, Maria Diaz Reyes, age 21, was taken into custody when cocaine concealed in the heels of seven pairs of women shoes was discovered. With her, on the Lauda Air flight, was traveling companion, 33 year old Jose Tejada Luis, who was attempting to transport 48 bags of cocaine in his stomach. Leonardo Leger Calderon, age 20, was arrested for when he attempted to board an American Airlines flight bound for New York, with 63 packets of extasis. Leger Calderon told police that he was being paid US$5,000 by a Dominican named Williams to bring the packets to New York. The packets contained 5,245 pills, with an estimated street value in the millions of dollars.
