Dr. Jesus Feris Iglesias, a member of the National Commission of Health of the Hipólito 2000 Presidential Project said that the PRD government would decentralize health services. He said their plan is to strengthen primary care services in the barrios and slum areas to make it unnecessary for most of the population to have to visit the larger hospitals. He said that the hospitals would be for patients that are referred from the smaller neighborhood centers. Feris Iglesias highlighted that the government would invest in improving potable water, preventive medicine, increasing investment in immunizations, and improving nutrition. He explained there are 30 aqueducts whose construction has been abandoned, despite their completion only requiring relatively minor sums.
