President-elect Hipólito Mejía promised that bills deemed important for the development of the DR and that have stagnated in Congress will move. The PRD party will be in power as of 16 August, and party members have majority in both congressional houses. Pending in Congress are the health code, energy bill, social security bill, copyright bill, anti-dumping bill, monetary and financial bill, tariffs code, tributary code, marketing ordering bill, fiscal amnesty bill. In a meeting with the directors of the National Business Council (CONEP), Mejía said he favors the passing of several of these bills by Congress prior to his taking office in August.
