Brutal beating of women in jail

Monsignor Juan Antonio Flores Santana of Santiago denounced that two police officers beat 12 women at the Rafey Jail of Santiago. Chief of the Cibao Regional Command, General Rafael Calderon Efres ordered an investigation. Monsignor Flores threatened to resign from his post as president of the Patronato Pro-Ayuda al Recluso (board to assist inmates), if the two officers were not removed to avoid another such flagrant human rights violation. Monsignor Flores said that the women were cooling off in the rain after being given permission, when the two officers brutally assaulted them to force them back into their cells.
