The Police ordered the arrest of two colonels and several agents of that institution for investigation regarding a beating of 12 women inmates at the Rafey Jail of Santiago on 20 May. The Police is investigating after Blas Santana, procurator of the Court of Appeals of Santiago denounced that the police used sticks and bats against inmates that were bathing in the rain in the patio of the jail. The Listin Diario newspaper says that the cancellation of Colonel Raymundo Hernandez Diplan and Colonel Beato Guzman could be recommended. The General Attorney of the Nation, Cesar Pina Toribio requested that the Police remove the entire police staff at the jail until the incident is clarified. Santiago Archbishop, Monsignor Juan Antonio Flores, who is president of a board to assist jail inmates, threatened to resign if the officials are not penalized. He said there are more civilized way to punish breaches of discipline in a jail.
