The Dominican Republic won the US Volleyball Open at the Columbus, Ohio arena. To win the championship 3-1, the Dominican national team defeated the Westwood Volleyball of California in the finals, 24-26, 25-18, 25-21, and 25-17. Nuris Arias, Indys Nova and Cosiris Rodriguez were the star players of the Dominican team. The championship served as a preparatory event for the DR team that aspires to a slot in the Sydney Olympic Games.
