Twenty-eight new companies have requested installation in the country during the first five months of the year. This would require a RD$380 million investment and could generate exports for more than US$20 million. Listín Diario interviewed Gabriel Castro, executive director of the National Council of Free Zones (CNZFE) who said that the new investments will create 5,361 new jobs. He said free zones have already generated 15,000 new jobs in the first five months of the year, due to the installation of new companies and the expansion of others. He expects more than 20,000 new jobs to be created this year. In the DR almost 200,000 people are employed in the industrial parks. Of these textile industries represent about 70% of the total firms.
