Viriato Sención could get his award after all

The Chamber of Accounts has ruled in favor of writer Viriato Sención. He was confirmed as the winner of the 1993 National Literature award for his novel, "Los que falsificaron la firma de Dios." Seven years ago his book was awarded the prize, but political pressures impeded his receiving the RD$50000 cash prize. The book, while fiction, revolves around several characters from the Balaguer administration days. It went on to become a best seller. If applied, the ruling requires the state to restore the award to Sención and pay him the RD$50,000 plus accrued interest from 1993 to present.
