Taiwan Ambassador Adolfo Sun contributed to Environment Day, 5 June, by releasing 100,000 Aztecus shrimp variety into the Samana bay area in the northeast. The shrimp were released in a mangrove of the Los Haitises National Park. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jose Miguel Martínez, represented the Dominican government. Ambassador Sun highlighted that the contribution falls within the technical cooperation Taiwan provides the Dominican Republic, especially in the area of aquaculture. The Taiwan mission also called the attention to Dominicans to reasonably exploit water resources, in order to conserve these and avoid depleting this natural resource. The shrimp are the offspring of shrimp from the Proyecto Piloto para el Cultivo de Camarones Marinos of Azua, in the Southwest. Fully grown, the Aztecus shrimp can reach 23.5 centimeters.
