The president of the PRD, Hatuey de Camps says those party members will have to comply with the 2 x 2 agreement. De Camps said that these signed notarized agreements to the effect. Several deputies are hanging on, hoping that President-elect Hipólito Mejía will appoint them somewhere else. The agreement affects 35 deputies, 80 aldermen and 10 city mayors nationwide. The agreement was a compromise solution by the late José Francisco Peña Gómez given the large numbers of party members that wanted government posts.
