Balaguer donates his family homes

Hoy newspaper reports that former President Joaquín Balaguer donated his home and that of his sister at Máximo Gómez 25 to the Dominican League Against Cancer. Rosa Emilia Sánchez vs. Tavares received the donation. Balaguer will be 94 years old this year. He reserved a part at the back of his house for a foundation for the publishing of new editions of his books. The newly created foundation will also fund poor authors so they can publish their books. Balaguer had already donated his Santiago residence to the Hermanas del Cardenal Sancha charity. His La Vega home went to the Universidad Tecnológica del Cibao. Another home in San Juan de la Maguana was assigned to the Hogares Crea, a drug addiction recovery center. Last year, Balaguer donated his extensive library to the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña.
