Next Minister of Armed Forces announced

President-elect Hipolito Mejia confirmed that Jose Miguel Soto Jiménez, born in Santiago in March 1956, will be the next Minister of the Armed Forces. Mejía made the announcement during his visit to Washington, D.C. Soto Jiménez at present is the nation’s military attaché assigned to the Dominican Embassy in Washington, D.C. He began his military career in 1973, entering the Army. He has participated in 26 specialization courses, has been a member of the G3 and J3 intelligence units, deputy officer in charge of army operations, director of the School of Infantry of the Army, director of the Superior Military Education Institute, deputy chief of the Army, and chief of the Dominican delegation to the Interamerican Defense Junta. He has also directed the Military Magazine and been a spokesman for the Armed Forces. He is a member of the Dominican Academy of History and is the author of several history books, having chronicled the armed forces story.
