Puerto Plata Airport remodeling under way

The Puerto Plata International Airport Gregorio Luperon has forthcoming a RD$10 million expansion for the next few months. Administrator Michael Nicolas of Aerodom, the new private airport concessionaire, announced this includes the revamping of the runway this October. During October, the landing strip will be closed for night flights in order to facilitate repair works. The expansion works include the increasing of the parking to give way to an area that can handle 50 large busses at a time. The project also envisions a 1,000-2,000 meter expansion of the customs area. A ramp will be built giving access to the tour busses area. Nicolas also announced the enlargement of the commercial area of the airport. He said that in the future, the airport will have four departments: commercial, finances, engineering and maintenance, and operations. (20 June 2000)
