Senator Bautista Rojas Gomez (PLD-Salcedo) said that the PRD is responsible for not passing the bill that would enable local petrol prices to fluctuate as per international prices. President Fernández sent the bill to Congress in November 1999, after the government increased petrol prices in October. The increase in petrol prices met with opposition by the same PRD politicians that now favor the Fernández administration order the increases. The bill is languishing in the Chamber of Deputies.
