President-elect Hipólito Mejía met with Prime Minister Lionel Jospin in Paris yesterday. During the meeting, Jospin reaffirmed French friendship and cooperation ties with the Dominican Republic and committed to reinforce cooperation. In Paris, Mejía also met with Michelle Bon, president of FranceTelecom at that company’s Paris headquarters. FranceTelecom is making a US$240 million investment in the Dominican telecommunications market in the next two years. In France, his wife, Rosa Gómez, accompanies Mejía. He was also accompanied by France Ambassador in the Dominican Republic Francois Javier Deniau, Hugo Tolentino Dipp (his choice for the next Minister of Foreign Relations), Miguel Vargas Maldonado, Peggy Cabral, Manuel Cáceres (his choice for the coordinator of European Union programs), and General Jose Miguel Soto Jiménez (his choice for the next Minister of the Armed Forces), as well as General Manuel Polanco Salvador, military attaché in France.
