The Listin Diario reports that the state electricity utility (CDE) says the power distribution companies owe it around RD$1,000 million for discounts these are illegally making to what they are billed by the CDE. The CDE said it is considering taking these companies to court for the illegal discounts. The CDE says that the companies are making monthly discounts of about 4% for losses on the transmission lines. The CDE says the contract stipulates the companies have to pay the full amount billed. According to the Listin Diario item, AES Distribuidora owes RD$150 million, while EdeNorte and Ede Sur owe more than RD$674 million for the same concept. The distributors are demanding that the government pay for power consumed by state institutions. Both the CDE and the power distributors accuse each other of violating contractual agreements.
