City hall urges installation of electricity lines underground

The Sala Capitular del Ayuntamiento del Distrito Nacional issued a resolution that condemns that the private distributor companies are opening holes in the ground to install new electricity poles. Alderman Jorge Frías says that the companies should make the extra investment and install underground cabling, especially after the experience of Hurricane Georges in 1998. After Hurricane David in 1979, Codetel, the leading telephone company, invested in underground cabling. This investment paid off and was celebrated by everyone, when service didn’t suffer during Hurricane Georges. The City Hall resolution has the support of aldermen from the PLD, PRSC and PRD political parties.
