Business matchmaking conference in Santo Domingo

An encounter of chambers and businesspersons of Latin America and the Caribbean will take place in Santo Domingo this week. The "VIth Conference and Business Matchmaking of the Chambers and Businesspeople of the Caribbean and the Americas" is scheduled for 6-7 July, 2000 at the Hotel Hotel Melia. The Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce hosts the event. The theme of the encounter will be "Compatibility between the FTAA and WTO: Implications and Opportunities for the Economies of the Caribbean and the Americas." Speakers include Jamaica’s Minister of Trade Anthony Hilton; Head of the OAS Trade Unit, José Manuel Salazar; Max Puig, National Co-ordinator for Lomé of the Dominican Republic; Amb. René Leon of El Salvador; Dr. David Lewis, Senior Associate of Manchester Trade; David Diaz of UNCTAD; Bernardo Vega, former Ambassador to Washington of the Dominican Republic; Dr. Patrick Antoine of IICA; Luis Abugattas of the National Industry Association of Peru; and Henry Gill of the RNM. The National Council of Private Business (CONEP), the British Chamber of Commerce in the DR, the Dominican-French Chamber of Commerce and the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in the DR are also endorsing the event.
