The Department of Migration announced today it will no longer require a residency visa for foreigners living in the DR and applying for residency. The decision could reduce by half the time it takes to regularize one’s status, according to Román Medina Diplán, director of the Puerto Plata office of the law firm Russin, Vecchi & Heredia Bonetti. The residency visa was a first step to apply for residence papers, and the red tape was handled basically by the Ministry of Foreign Relations. The requirement is eliminated as of 10 July 2000.
