Only one of the Siamese twins born united by the thorax and the abdomen on Friday, 30 June in Santo Domingo will survive, their physicians say. The twins are in stable condition. They share a heart, and may have other organs in common. The twins were born to 20 year old Julissa Suriel and 22-year old Ambiorix Baez. The children were born of a C-section at the Centro Médico Fuentes-Romano in the Barrio Mejoramiento Social of Santo Domingo at 37 weeks. They jointly weighed 8.5 lbs at birth. The mother had been diagnosed with the Siamese twins at 26 weeks of pregnancy. This is the mother’s second pregnancy. She has a three-year old daughter. The babies will be transferred to Corazones Unidos that has assisted in securing medical attention for Dominican Siamese twins in the past.
