Preliminary medical studies have indicated the Siamese twins born on Friday, 30 June in Santo Domingo share a heart and liver. The baby girls are in stable condition at the Plaza de la Salud medical center. They are in the care of a team of physicians head by Plaza de la Salud chief pediatrician, Luis Rivera. Rivera is also head of pediatrics at the Corazones Unidos clinic. The Corazones Unidos Foundation has assisted parents of three other Siamese twins, that were operated successfully in the United States, with at least one of the twins surviving. The twins were born united by the thorax and the abdomen to 20 year old Julissa Suriel and 22-year old Ambiorix Baez. The children were born of a C-section at the Centro Médico Fuentes-Romano in the Barrio Mejoramiento Social of Santo Domingo at 37 weeks. They jointly weighed 8.5 lbs at birth.
