El Siglo newspaper reports that the Dominican Republic was given Category II status, following a revision completed on 26 June. This is an improvement from Category III, but still does not permit Dominican registration airplanes to fly to the US. The FAA still objects local aviation controls. The Asociacion de Tripulantes de Lineas Aereas y Servicios urged that the government cancel the multi-million dollar consulting contract it maintains with the OACI and start direct negotiations with the US Federal Aviation Authorities authorities for the lifting of the ban.
