El Siglo reports there is an over abundance of plantains, green bananas, lemons, passionfruit, mangos, oranges, pineapples, eggplant and tomatoes in Santo Domingo. As a result, prices are at all time lows, benefiting consumers. The newspaper reports that plantains were going for 30-50 cents at the Mercado Nuevo produce market of Duarte Avenue. The same report says there is a scarcity of potatoes, yucca, zapote, tangerines, papaya, and grapefruit resulting in higher prices than usual for these goods.
