President-elect returns from international tour

President-elect Hipólito Mejía arrived yesterday after a 21-day tour of the United States and Europe. During his visit to the US, he met with Interamerican affairs officers of the US government (Kenneth McKay and Peter Romero), the US Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman. Likewise, he met with James Wolfensoh, president of the World Bank and Enrique Iglesias, president of the Interamerican Development Bank. In France, he met with Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, and with Michelle Bon, president of France Telecom. In Brussels, he met with Javier Solana, secretary general of the European Union. In Oslo he met the Norwegian Prime Minister. In Italy, he was received by Pope John Paul II and met with Italian politicians and businessmen. In Portugal, he met Prime Minister Antonio Guerres. In Spain, he was received by head of the Spanish government Jose Maria Aznar and by King Juan Carlos.
