The XXXI National Blue Marlin Tournament of the Monte Cristi Yacht Club on the northwestern coast of the DR is scheduled for 19-22 July. The most important fishing event held in the north coast waters every year, this tournament features a RD$100,000 prize for any sports fisherman who captures a blue marlin weighing 700 lbs. or more. Commodore Alvaro Quezada says that the blue marlins are abundant in the waters this year. The blue marlin fishing season is June to September.
