President-elect Hipólito Mejía said he would prefer to confirm Hamlet Hermann, the present director of the Metropolitan Transport Authority in the post and not delegate the transport responsibilities of Santo Domingo to the city government. Santo Domingo Mayor Johnny Ventura has requested that the government that starts 16 August 2000 return to the municipality the responsibility for transport in Santo Domingo. "Johnny (Ventura) doesn’t have to do with that," said Mejía, referring to fellow party member Johnny Ventura.
