Public Works Minister choice announced

President-elect Hipólito Mejía announced that his choice for Minister of Public Works is engineer Miguel Vargas Maldonado. He said that Engineer Hernani Salazar will be the director of the Oficina Supervisora de Obras del Estado, the government office that supervises government contractors. He also announced that engineer Roberto Rodríguez will be appointed the new director of the Instituto Nacional de Aguas Potables y Alcantarillados, the department in charge of building aqueducts nationwide. Engineer Silvio Carrasco will be in charge of the Instituto Nacional de Recursos Hidraulicos, the department in charge of dams. Mejía’s choice for the Corporacion de Acueducto y Alcantarillados de Santo Domingo, the potable water department of the capital city, is engineer Julio Suero Marranzini. Juan Vargas will be the new director of the Instituto de Auxilios y Viviendas, that is entrusted with building housing for government employees. Manuel Troncoso will be appointed director of the Banco Nacional de la Vivienda, the government bank that oversees savings and loans banks. Alberto Atallah was appointed the next superintendent of the Banks. The new government starts 16 August 2000, but President-elect Hipólito Mejía chose to make known his cabinet member choices in advance.
